I am the Lead Enteral Nutrition Nurse for the Adult Service and have been working in the Clinical Nutrition Department at Addenbrookes Hospital for the past seven (7) years. My Clinical experience and knowledge are underpinned by my work within Acute medicine, Gastroenterology (surgery), Intestinal Failure (now Intestinal Rehabilitation), Emergency medicine, Acute Stroke and Education (Practice Development Nurse). Mentoring and teaching has always been a key element within my previous roles which allowed me to pursue and successfully attain my registration as an NMC Qualified teacher (PG Cert Education) along side my Registered Nurse status.
In my role as Enteral Nutrition Nurse, it offered the opportunity to work with both patients (families/carers) and professionals across various specialities. Working alongside other colleagues has enhanced my professional development, clinical skills and allows for a healthy exchange of ideas and practice solutions to improve a patient’s outcome and recovery. This has allowed me to provide patients with the education and training to enable self-care or the provision to be cared for away from an acute environment.
I have previously had the opportunity to support a talk presented by a colleague to the RAMA Foundation and found it very interesting. Discussions were around trouble- shooting complications at a gastrostomy site… exciting stuff! I am always intrigued to know what has been tried previously as part of formulating a solution. Sometimes it’s a case of “back to basics”. I am keen to contribute as one of the nurses joining the team for the first time this year.
The Rama Foundation has helped in the establishment of key roles to improve patient outcomes and staff development through volunteering. I am excited, nervous and truly grateful for the opportunity to travel to Rishikesh and Dehradun to volunteer my time, share my knowledge and clinical skills to support patient care and pathways. I look forward to sharing clinical practice and improving patient care and outcomes as we work alongside teams on both sites; learning about local traditions, food and culture. Thank you for your support to make this experience possible.
