Author: Rachael Mullan, Specialist Oncology Dietitian, Cambridge University Hospitals
I am a Dietitian currently working in Head and Neck Oncology. Originally from Ireland, I moved to Cambridge to start my position as a general Dietitian working at Addenbrookes Hospital in July 2021. I love working in the busy, hospital setting, and I have a real passion for helping and caring for people. In my first couple of weeks at Addenbrookes, I remember hearing about the Rama Foundation and the amazing work that they do, and I always thought that would be great opportunity to hopefully, one day be part of. I also remember speaking with Artika following her successful trip last July, and found her passion and positivity truly inspiring.
I have always been very keen to take part in a volunteering project and give something back to those who are less fortunate, and I feel that this is the perfect opportunity as I can combine my current career with helping those from some of the most disadvantaged areas in India. I have many friends and family who have volunteered on similar trips, and I love hearing their stories and I could see the positive impact these trips have had on their outlook on life. I am really looking forward to this experience and I hope to learn a lot about myself. I am keen to share my knowledge and experience in Nutrition and Dietetics and I hope that it will be helpful to the people and groups we meet on this trip. I am also very excited to experience India, a completely new and different country, I am sure I will make memories I will cherish for a lifetime.
I am very grateful for the work of the Rama Foundation Trustees Artika and Munish Datta as a lot of time has been spent planning and organising, to enable us to focus on the projects that we will be taking part in. I am also very grateful for the kindness and generosity of all those who have donated so far & helped to support us financially as we embark on this trip to Rishikesh. We look forward to updating you all on our return.
